We are delighted with the publication of the 2020 Legal 500 Directory and our presence within its entries.
The Directory, which is an annual professional publication, gives recommendations to the public and other professionals of ranked lawyer experts. The rankings are based on client references and other Lawyer, Accountant and Financial Advisor feedback on individual solicitors and their firms in the last 12 months.
The Commercial and Personal Teams within Jolliffes are both ranked in the listings.
The commercial team is active on both the transactional and non-transactional fronts, handling M&A, reorganisations, joint ventures, franchise work and private equity matters in addition to shareholder agreements and a wealth of other commercial contract issues. The team is led by Managing Partner Simon Williams who was described as having “Great experience and energy. Always gives the client confidence that obstacles can be overcome.” Other partners were mentioned in the listing, including Mark Fergusson.
Elizabeth Hassall, head of the family department, was listed in the Hall Of Fame for 2020 and “is a highly-skilled, intelligent family lawyer, with exceptional experience. The team is significantly enhanced by having her as head of the family team.” She is well known in the Northwest of England having headed top 50 Law Firms in both Liverpool and Manchester as well as establishing her own boutique law firm in Manchester. She returned to her local roots in Chester in January 2019.
The Litigation team handles shareholder and partnership disputes and claims of a contractual nature. ADR, namely mediation and arbitration, serve as a keystone of the practice which is also adept in a range of matters outside of commercial litigation. Examples include breach of warranty claims, property litigation, professional negligence and probate matters, financial mis-selling and financial regulation disputes. Headed up by Stewart Burrows who was described as “incredibly conscientious and delivers a standard of service that would enhance any legal practice.” Team member Carlianne White was also featured in the listing.
Hugh Butler who heads Jolliffe’s Private Client Team specialising in Wills, Powers of Attorney, Trusts, Tax Planning and Administration of Estates is delighted that he and his team appear for the second time in the Legal 500. Hugh is highly recognised and boasts some wonderful testimonials including “Long-term knowledge of our family and its legal/financial arrangements within the firm has and continues to make Jolliffes utterly invaluable to me. I hold power of attorney for two close/immediate family members and Jolliffe have been and continue to be instrumental in helping me to help them in all matters.”
The commercial property team at Jolliffes is also listed in the rankings. The team handles a broad range of matters including property and estate management, property acquisitions and lease work for landlords and tenants. Rose Moss heads up the team.
